Matt Bryant & Linda Joyce - Goodness Gracious Me
Matt Bryant is Sound's Of The Sixties presenter Brian Matthews, I am not sure who Linda Joyce is but I think it is Joyce Blair.
I stand corrected it is Maureen Evans by the the time this record was recorded Maureen Evans had stoped recording for Embassy and moved to Oriole, like many others she adopted a none de plume for the Embassy sessions, i remember Brian Matthews saying that when Mike Sarn & Billy Davies released "Will I What" he was waiting to be asked to record it with Maureen Evans, Embassy decided not to produce it.

You are correct about the male vocalist Brian Matthew and the female is actually Maureen Evans
ReplyDeleteMaureen Evans is sure displaying her versatility here and all in all, in its own way this version is as good as the rendition by Peter Sellers and Sophia Loren on Parlophone (which is one of my treasured mint condtion 45's). Embassy yet again!
ReplyDeleteI guess in todays society this novelty would be classed as a racist record?
ReplyDeleteCome to think about it, you're probably right. Yet I think it's more racy than racist!
DeleteEmbassy was owned and distributed by Oriole Records, so I guess it was right of Ms Evans to have used a pseudonym on this! She stayed with Oriole until 1964, though she was also an Embassy recording artst in her own right during 1958-59, under the name of Maureen Evans.
